Facebook, WhatsApp & Instagram apps faced a global outage last night and it was mentioned by website monitoring group Downdetector as largest such failure it had ever seen, with more than 10 million problem reports globally.
Some of the users were able to connect with social media apps at around 5:45 PM Eastern Time, while WhatsApp was still facing connection issues.
“To every small and large business, family, and individual who depends on us, I’m sorry,” Facebook Chief Technology Officer Mike Schroepfer tweeted, adding that it “may take some time to get to 100%.”
Facebook shared were affected with their biggest daily drop of 4.9% on Monday and it has daily active users of nearly 2 Billion.
Jonathan Zittrain, director of Harvard’s Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society, tweeted, “Facebook basically locked its keys in its car,”
While Facebook did acknowledge the issue of accessing the apps after the outage started; however, there were no specific details shared about the reason of outage.
